But if you’re unsure about the process, or want an insight into what to expect, maybe even just how to block book session – we’re here to help.
What to expect when starting therapy?

Frequently asked questions
How do I get started with therapy?
It’s simple:
-
Browse our directory to find a therapist who fits your needs
-
Add a session to ‘your basket‘ at a time and date that works for you
-
Pay for your session to secure the spot
-
Receive your email confirmation and look out for details of how to join your session for both online or in-person.
How will my chosen appointment type be delivered?
After you complete your booking, your therapist will contact you directly. They’ll send you a link to join your video session using their preferred platform (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, etc.). Please check your email or messages for the link and any instructions.
Your therapist will call you on the phone number you provided during booking. Make sure your phone is available and you’re in a quiet, private space at the time of your session.
Once your booking is confirmed, your therapist will get in touch with details about their practice location. This may include the address, directions, parking info, and anything else you need to know before arriving.
How long is my session? What is a therapeutic hour?
Each therapy session lasts 50 minutes and is your dedicated time to focus entirely on you, your thoughts, and your wellbeing.
The 50-minute structure is a standard “therapeutic hour” used by many therapists. It ensures that your therapist can give you their best by taking a short period afterwards to:
-
Thoughtfully write up notes from your session
-
Reflect on the work you’ve done together
-
Prepare personalised support for your next session
-
Recharge briefly, so they can be fully present for you and other clients
This approach helps create a consistent, focused, and high-quality therapy experience each time you meet.
How does the pricing work?
The cost of therapy sessions range from £45–£120.
Our therapists are able to determine their own price-per-session depending on their level of experience, qualification or therapy type.
Some therapists may offer a different price for online therapy than in-person, to cover the costs of their room rental.
How long should I be in therapy?
The length of therapy depends entirely on your individual needs and goals. Some people benefit from just a few sessions, while others choose to continue for several months or longer.
Your therapist can help you assess your progress and decide what’s right for you. Ultimately, the decision is yours.
What can I talk about in therapy?
Anything and everything. Anxiety, grief, relationship issues, work stress – or even if things are good but you want to grow. We’re here for the full range of human experience. See what therapy types we offer.
I’m not sure what therapist to choose, or what support I need – what should I do?
Try a connection call! All of our therapists offer a ‘Free Consultation’ – think of it like a first date, but with better listening. You can always explore different therapists until you find the right fit.
These sessions cost nothing, so it’s worth trying a 15-minute connection call if that will ease any worries, or lead you into understanding what support you’d like.
Booking queries
We operate a fully digital system, as this enables us to give you the most flexibility possible, but we know this can sometimes cause some hiccups.
Frequently asked questions
What’s your cancellation policy?
Our motto – ‘Life happens!’ You can reschedule or cancel up to 48 hours before your session. This is to ensure your counsellor sees this cancellation, and the slot can become back available for someone else on our website.
Unfortunately, we can’t refund late cancellations or no-shows.
Is there a contract or long-term commitment?
Nope. It’s pay-as-you-go with full flexibility. No contracts, no subscriptions.
We are able to offer discounts for those able to bulk-book their sessions. But this is not a requirement.
How do partnered businesses book?
For organisations we have a partnership with, we will communicate a referral code to be used on time slots placed ‘in to the basket‘. This will be unique per business – but the rest of the booking process remains the same.
Am I eligible for a refund?
If a cancellation is processed outside of 48 hours (before the scheduled start-time), a full refund will be issued back to the payment method of the original payment.
You are also eligible for a full refund should a therapist need to cancel and a rescheduled time is unsuitable.
Most refunds are received between 3-5 working days later, but please allow the full 21 days processing time to pass before reaching out to the team.
What happens after I book a session?
As soon as a booking is made you will receive 3 confirmation emails. These contain your;
- order details (the payment information supplied)
- booking details (time, date and therapy type and therapist booked)
- account details (a temporary login you can use to see your upcoming appointments)
For all appointments, your therapist will be in touch with either online video call details, or details as to find the in-person location.
What is ‘my account’?
When you book with Now You’re Talking we have an ‘account’ area where you can see your past and upcoming bookings.
You can choose to ‘checkout as guest’ to avoid appointments being added here. Alternatively you can work through the steps of the temporary account login (email sent during 1st booking) and set a memorable password to create your profile and consolidate all bookings.
Trusted therapists
Unlike some online therapy platforms, our therapists undergo a vigorous onboarding process before joining Now You’re Talking. We carefully vet all therapists – checking qualifications, insurance, DBS certification, and more.
Frequently asked questions
How are the therapists verified?
How is my privacy protected?
Your sessions are confidential. We adhere to strict privacy and data protection policies to keep your information safe.
You can also help with this by accessing your sessions in a private space, and using earphones where needed.
Do therapists offer short-term or long-term therapy?
Both. Some people benefit from a few focused sessions; others prefer long-term support. It’s entirely up to you, and you can review things as you go with whoever you choose to have your sessions with.
What if I need to change my therapist?
No problem. It’s important to find the right match. You’re welcome to explore other therapists at any time.
Therapists will also be honest with you, if they feel someone else may better suit your needs.
What does ‘therapy types’ mean?
We use this to enable you to find a suitable method of support. From our current rostra of therapists we able to offer individual or couples sessions. We can also work with children and young people.
How to choose the best therapist for me?
On our ‘Find a Therapist’ page we offer filters to refine your search.
This can be on ‘types of therapy’, ‘specialism’ or on delivery method.
It is worth experimenting with these filters to find someone who matches the criteria you are looking for.
Please only apply a ‘location’ filter should you wish to access your session in-person. All our therapist are available to deliver their service remotely – so leaving this clear means you can see all the varied expertise available (anywhere in the country).
